From Dancer to Devotee: My Sacred Reset Through Yoga

I started out in this life as a very shy and self-conscious person who struggled to fit in. School was tough — I couldn’t quite absorb all the information being thrown at me, and I left feeling like I knew little more than when I arrived. What saved me in those early years was dancing.

I started out in this life as a very shy and self-conscious person who struggled to fit in. School was tough — I couldn’t quite absorb all the information being thrown at me, and I left feeling like I knew little more than when I arrived.

What saved me in those early years was dancing.

It was my first passion and one that will never leave me. Once a dancer, always a dancer. There’s no feeling quite like it, and as it turned out, I was actually pretty good at it too. Looking back, I realise I was tapping into something deeper within me — a connection I would come to rediscover through yoga many years later.

Even though I had real talent, my dance career ended up being fairly mediocre — partly because I was easily distracted by the rave scene, clubs, parties, and the general thrill of “good times” (no regrets!). But eventually, thank goodness, I found yoga — or more accurately, yoga found me. It brought me back to myself, or as we say in this practice, it brought me onto the path.

I remember my first deep connection to yoga so vividly. It was at Triyoga, during a Goddess workshop with my first teacher, Claire Missingham. We were in child’s pose, reflecting on a goddess who had guided us through our lives. A profound connection to my late Nan washed over me. I was moved to tears — literally sobbing in child’s pose, but in a good way. I was feeling her presence so deeply in my heart, and in that moment, I experienced something I now understand as pure grace and gratitude for life.

That’s when I realised yoga was so much more than just fancy postures.

Over the years, yoga taught me that even the most challenging experiences hold the potential for growth — and even light. That’s something I never would have believed before I found this path.

For the last 15 years, I’ve been on a consistent and conscious journey of self-evolution. It never ends. There’s always more to learn, more to realise, and more to uncover — because the practice is a mirror for the life we are living.

Yoga is a way of life. Yoga is life.

I’m still shy. I still doubt myself. Public speaking terrifies me. I’ve battled anxiety for many years. But I’ve come so far and overcome so many of the limiting beliefs I picked up along the way — all thanks to yoga. It has empowered me and made me passionate about helping others step into their own light, power, and truth.

Honestly, I don’t know where I’d be without this practice. It has taught me that we are life, and life is what we make it. The power to shape it lies within us — it’s just a matter of peeling back the layers and having the courage to look inward.

As I guide our current Sacred Reset-21 day journey, I’ve been reflecting on how far I’ve come. Not just in my teaching, but in my own practice — spiritually, emotionally, energetically. Through yoga, breathwork, and the beautiful magic of manifestation, I’ve learned how to shift my reality. And that’s what I want for you, too.

Yoga teaches us to go inward — to discover the truth of who we are. It’s not always easy. But it invites us to accept ourselves, to let go of what no longer serves, and to shed the pressures society places on us — the need to look a certain way, to achieve certain things, to accumulate. None of that brings true joy. Just look at how many rich and famous people are deeply unhappy.

Yoga teaches us self-love. And when we truly love ourselves, we become a beacon of light for others.

It’s deep, I know — until one day, it just clicks. You realise your potential to live a magnificent life. And if you’re curious, if you feel that little spark of intrigue — you’re probably ready. Ready to dive deep and discover the power within you.
